Guides and explanations

What does the EU size mean for children's clothing?

EU sizes for children correspond directly to the child's height in cm. A size 92 typically fits a child who is 92–98 cm tall. This makes it much easier to choose than the US system's age designations (2T, 4T…), which vary greatly from brand to brand.

How to measure your child correctly

Measure height from the top of the head to the floor while the child stands upright against a wall. For shoes: place the child's foot flat on a piece of paper, trace around it, and measure the longest distance. Add 1–1.5 cm for comfortable movement — children's feet grow fast.

British children's shoe sizes start over

UK shoe sizes for children run from 0 to 13 (infants and toddlers), then restart from 1 as "junior". In the table, junior sizes are marked with "jr" to avoid confusion. The EU size is the most reliable reference across brands.

Sizes vary from brand to brand

This guide is advisory. A child in size 104 at H&M won't necessarily fit in size 104 at Zara or Nike. Use the EU size and the child's current height as a starting point, and always check the specific brand's size guide if in doubt — especially when shopping online.

Men's trousers: inches vs. cm

Men's jeans typically state waist in inches (28, 30, 32…) followed by inseam length. A 32" waist equals approximately 81 cm. Many European brands use cm only, while American and British brands almost always use inches. Remember this is the waist circumference — not the hip measurement.

INT sizes: XS, S, M, L

International letter sizes (XS–XXL) are the least precise, as they are not standardized. An M from a Scandinavian brand does not always correspond to an M from an Asian brand. The EU size or measurements in cm give a far more accurate starting point.
